A chat with Trey Smith of Game Academy

Last week, I had the pleasure of spending some time with Trey Smith of Game Academy. He’s worked with thousands of students, helping many become successful mobile game entrepreneurs. When he asked for a formal interview from AppLovin, I couldn’t pass on the opportunity.

It turned into a great “fireside chat” and we covered some high level topics about AppLovin and the mobile industry in general.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • AppLovin has a pure focus on ad monetization. We do this by producing highly relevant ads as well as disregarding other products that don’t help with this singular purpose.
  • Trends for 2014 include an increasing focus on freemium titles and we’ll continue to see some of the larger companies dominate the top grossing rankings with title variations and new hits.
  • Ad placement does make a difference. All else equal, try to find the moments when players are disengaged and willing to allow something else into their lives.
